HPE SimpliVity 380: The Powerful, Yet Simple Solution for VDI

HPE SimpliVity 380: The Powerful, Yet Simple Solution for VDI

In our last blog post, we discussed the acquisition of SimpliVity by Hewlett Packard Enterprise as well as what it means to companies looking to become more agile and reduce costs. To continue the conversation, our next two blog posts are devoted to examining a couple common use cases where the HPE SimpliVity solution should get strong consideration.

Demands on IT Increase and Facilitate the Need for Change

As many of you are experiencing, businesses are struggling with both internal and external influences to compete more effectively. Internally, aging IT infrastructure has become unwieldly with multiple management tools that don’t interoperate and hardware that doesn’t scale well to adequately meet resource needs. Externally, the digital economy has sped up the speed of business such that companies must be able to quickly respond to new market initiatives and maintain constant touch with customers. End user compute needs have also grown as they need more power to maintain productivity.

Companies are seriously considering moving to a virtual environment to optimize the benefits of lower operational costs and secure, high-performance compute needs of end users. One way to do this is to deploy a VDI infrastructure, which virtualizes the end user desktop experience. One option for companies is to use the pubic cloud to support these initiatives. However, the cloud isn’t ideal for every business or application.

Hyper Converged Infrastructure for VDI

Hyper converged infrastructures are the essence of software-defined data centers, and that is an important wave of the future. The inherent advantages of HCI are particularly interesting for VDI workloads, where storage configuration and costs historically made VDI deployments more complicated. At a high level, hyper converged environments eliminate complex solution stacks, providing a simpler, more agile, and highly available VDI. The HPE SimpliVity 380 offers a great solution for VDI initiatives by delivering cloud-like operating efficiency, flexibility and speed in an integrated, software-defined appliance.

HPE SimpliVity: Purpose-Built for High Performance, Scalability, and Operational Efficiency

The powerful HPE SimpliVity 380 solution gives IT the lower cost, easier to manage option they need to future-proof their data center, manage capacity, and build a flexible virtual desktop infrastructure for end-user computing. The HPE SimpliVity 380 solution provides full lifecycle management for VDI or other virtual workloads, allowing IT to provision new virtual machines (VMs), assign VMs to users, track resource usage, and terminate virtual machines that are no longer needed. This translates to several benefits for VDI and virtual infrastructure initiatives:

  • Lower cost of ownership for VDI through reduced storage requirements (data deduplication), and integrated virtualization solutions.
  • Scale easily and less expensively by adding additional HPE SimpliVity 380 systems – and managing through a single interface.
  • Lower TCO through consolidation; HPE SimpliVity 380 delivers more virtual desktops on less hardware (up to 250 per node)
  • Rapid service agility; deploy, clone or restore VMs in just seconds
  • Superior data protection; backup and recovery times reduced from hours to seconds

Resource silos and barriers across business units dissolve, providing fluid resource pools that any group can access. These are all steps in the process to transform IT into a strategic value creator and broker of resources whenever they are needed.

In our next blog, we will look at typical IT challenges with remote office/branch office environments and how HPE SimpliVity solutions deliver significant cost and operational benefits.
