Works Computing Lab now has HP 3PAR All-Flash Storage

By | Technical Business Perspective

With the recent delivery of an HP 3PAR 7450 All-Flash storage array, HP is again demonstrating its confidence in Works Computing as a go to Enterprise Storage partner in Minneapolis, MN. We are currently incorporating this technology into our lab environment to allow customers the ability to test both high performance workloads, and the new data compaction enhancements specifically implemented for SSD technology. In case you haven’t heard, HP has figured out a way to utilize the built-in Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) that handles all the back-end disk I/O, to implement an in-line deduplication algorithm for data stored on SSD. This data deduplication technology, coupled with all the existing data compaction/reduction technologies, is expected to reduce stored data set sizes by ratios approaching 10:1 for some data types (heavily virtualized deployments). What is interesting is that even with a 4:1 data compaction ratio, it brings the cost of SSD storage to parity with spinning disk. We plan to start testing customer workloads around the end of December. Contact us to schedule time in our lab.
